About

Bob McMichael teaches and performs on the bagpipes in the Boise, Idaho area

After performing at a wedding

I’ve been a musician for over 40 years. My primary instruments have been woodwinds. My love of the bagpipes began as a young child but it wasn’t until 2007 that I began playing them.

I love to perform and enjoy playing at any type of occasion. I’ve participated in many funerals, lots of weddings, birthday parties (the bagpipes make for quite an impressive surprise party, and – yes – “Happy Birthday” sounds great on the pipes!), and more.

As a teacher, I draw on my extensive education in musical traditions as well as social and cultural history to provide a broad canvas for students wishing to learn not only the music but also its historical importance and cultural significance. As a music major in college, having earned a Ph.D., and teaching at Brown University, Stanford, UC Berkeley, and Boise State, I know how to teach to all levels and abilities. Contact me today to realize your dream of becoming a bagpiper.
